Day 26: Prague in Purple

Above my shoes: the seal of Prague on a man whole. Top picture: famous astronomical clock in Prague. This week we spent on the road before we begin the semester. We spent 2 days in Weimar, Germany, 2 days in Dresden, Germany and 2 days in Prague, Czech Republic.

My inspiration

Redheaded, lefty, farm kid, fashionista, nerd, 100% my own person.

This is a simply a spot to collect and preserve my fashion ideas, creations and likes. History, Anthropology and art history are some of the things I study in school, have professional interest in and find inspiration. Thus, much of the historical or cultural facts I share around the context of clothing are things I have had the pleasure to learn through my time as a student, reading, meeting new people and traveling.

Fashion is art and a form of expression. Clothes have the ability to speak volumes about one’s identity, nationality, culture, religious beliefs, personal likes and dislikes, ideals and time period in which they live or lived in. In the words of Neil Macgregor the director of the British Museum: "Looking at clothes, is a key part in any serious study of history...and fashion is a great way to grasp how a society thinks about itself" In this way, clothes state as much of what we think in silence; as we say we think aloud. In 5 years or 500 a simple a or description of a garment can inform the viewer of this historical information. And all without words.
